Tommy Byrne took a no-hitter into the 7th inning at Bright Health Field as the
Pittsburgh Bichipoos beat the Colorado 14ers in 10 innings by the count of 2
to 0.
The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings.
Pittsburgh won it in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Roy Sievers
started the attack as he laced a single. Sam Hairston followed and he
slapped a base-hit. Ray Noble then slapped a single bringing in a run. Sid
Hudson was up next and he reached on an error scoring the final run of the
inning. Pittsburgh had 6 hits overall, while Colorado had 2.
Isiah Harris(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. The left-handed Byrne lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jerry
Priddy singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Al Benton was credited with
his 3rd save. Gerry Staley(1-2) was charged with the loss in relief.
With this win, Pittsburgh has a 9-7 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With
