19,085 fans watched an exciting game at Memorial Stadium. The Minnesota Loons
ended a long winless drought and topped the Iowa MoonlightGraham by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
Minnesota scored 2 runs in the 7th inning. The big moment was provided by Al
Smith who made the Minnesota fans a happy lot when he slapped a one-base hit
which was good for two runs. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel
until the 6th inning.
Bennie Daniels(2-1) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Stu Miller
preserved the game for Daniels, recording his his 1st save. Curt
Simmons(2-2) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and no walks in 8
innings.
The win by Minnesota was very good news as they had been 1-9 of late. Now
their seasonal record improves to 11-12. Iowa's manager was unhappy with his
club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets
to be embarrassing after a while.'
