Catcher Earl Battey cracked a homer as the Queen Qiller Bees defeated the
Sugarland Skeeters 4 to 3 at County Stadium.
Queen came up with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they had 4 base
hits. Battey started the scoring when he ripped a solo home run. After an
out was recorded, Don Hoak stepped in and he delivered a base-hit. Richie
Ashburn then laced a one-base hit. Joe Koppe followed and he slapped a
single driving in one more runner. Jose Pagan came to the plate and worked
the squeeze play to perfection scoring the final run of the inning. Queen
had a total of 7 hits for the game.
Mike McCormick(1-0) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. McCormick got
help from Roy Face who earned his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Frank
Lary(0-1). He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.
