In a close game it was the Savannah Rumrunners 6, the Denver Dingers 4 in 10
innings at Mile High Stadium.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Savannah
prevailed in the 10th inning. Gene Hermanski led off and got things going
when he singled. Len Pigg next to the plate and he reached on an error.
Billy Cox then hit a single driving in a run. After another out, Cass
Michaels came to bat and worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the
final run of the inning. Savannah banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.
Bobby Hogue(1-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Leon
Day got the save, his 2nd. Dizzy Trout(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He
was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings
of work.
