In a dramatic ending, the Minnesota Loons staged a comeback win over the
Hibbing Dylans by the count of 2 to 1.
Minnesota had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 base hits.
Cool Papa Bell led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. Buddy Myer
followed and he reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Harry Rice
then laced a base-knock scoring a single run. Rube Lutzke followed next and
he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Dick Burrus stepped into the box and lined a
base-hit making Minnesota the winners and sending the 19,913 fans home happy.
The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 8th inning.
The winning pitcher was Bill Drake(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Tommy
Thomas(8-3) was the loser. He surrendered 4 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3
innings.
'That was exciting!,' Rice said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'
