Kent Mercker(5-0), with relief help from Willie Blair, constrained Minnesota
while the Pittsburgh Bichipoos scored 7 runs in a day game at County
Stadium.
Minnesota found themselves trailing quickly as the Pittsburgh bats came
through in the first inning when they came up with 2 runs on 2 hits. That
scoring would be all that was needed. Pittsburgh totaled 8 hits on the
afternoon.
Blair got the save, his 1st. Brett Tomko(2-2) suffered the loss. He struck
out 9 batters in 6 innings despite losing the game.
Wth the win Pittsburgh now has a record of 25-22. Minnesota can't seem to
snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 1-9 record over
the last couple weeks.
