In a dramatic ending, the Cincinnati Royalty staged a comeback win over the
reeling Tenth Avenue Freezeouts by the count of 5 to 4.
Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Ray Dandridge led off the inning for Cincinnati
when he tripled. Floyd Baker stepped up next and he ripped a base-hit
scoring a single run. Walker Cooper then doubled giving Cincinnati the
victory and sending the 34,073 home-town fans home happy. Cincinnati rapped
out 7 hits for the night.
The victory was credited to Raydell Maddix(2-3) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Bob Feller(3-6) was the loser. John O'Neal was in great
spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after
the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I
know how my counterpart, Billy Vanson, feels right now - and it's not very
good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
