29,832 fans watched an exciting game at Municipal Stadium. The Sugarland
Skeeters ended a long winless drought and topped the Bristol Blasters by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Sugarland won the game in the 13th
inning. After two outs Frank Howard laced a single. Carl Yastrzemski was
next and he laced a one-base hit. Jake Wood then doubled making Sugarland
the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Sugarland had 13
hits for the game and Bristol had 10.
Terry Fox(4-3) allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Turk Farrell(0-1) took the loss in relief. He got hammered,
allowing 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
'We really needed this win' said Sugarland's manager. 'That first drink of
water at the end of a drought sure does taste good!'
