Willie Randolph had 2 base hits as the Bumpass BS outscored the Mid-World
Bumblers in 12 innings 1 to 0.
The score was a scoreless tie after nine. Finally, Bumpass pulled the game out
in the 12th inning. Bobby Murcer drew a walk. Murcer then stole second
base. Johnny Bench then laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Randolph
came to bat and doubled resulting in a mighty exciting win for Bumpass and
the 46,723 home town fans in attendance. Mid-World out-hit Bumpass 8 to 5,
but Bumpass ended up with more runs.
Tug McGraw(4-2) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Roger Moret(1-2) was
charged with the loss in relief. 'Wow. That's about all I can think to
say.' said Jason Hinkledire following the victory. 'If ever a team needed a
win, it was us.'
