Bobby Thomson slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Savannah Rumrunners
defeated the floundering Cincinnati Royalty by the score of 12 to 6 at The
Palace.
Thomson enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, cleared the fences
for a two-run home run in the 4th inning and tripled plating two runs in the
7th inning. Savannah kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they
scored in 6 different innings.
Pat Scantlebury(14-4) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Jay Heard(9-11) was the loser. He was knocked around by Savannah, allowing
10 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings.
Savannah now has a record of a division leading 64-41. Not able to get much
going in recent weeks, Cincinnati is 1-9 of late and now has an overall
record of 45-60.
