WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Granny Hamner robbed Eddie Pellagrini of a base hit.
The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the Bristol
Blasters staged a comeback win over the Savannah Rumrunners by the count of 6
to 5.
Bristol scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Joe Dimaggio initiated the scoring spurt
when he delivered a base-hit. Vic Wertz came next and he lashed a single.
Hank Baylis then would hit into a fielders choice which plated a run. Whitey
Platt was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. One out later,
Johnny Hopp stepped in and he drew a walk making Bristol the victors to the
delight of the home town faithful. Bristol had 13 hits for the game and
Savannah had 9.
The victory went to Hugh Casey(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. Leon Day(2-8) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 2
hits in 1/3 of an inning.
'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like
this, of course,' Steve Sustakowski offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a
great time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
